Tuckerman Ravine Panorama
Description:
I hiked the White Mountain region in August 2009 and took a total of 32
frames (vertical, portrait orientation) at the base of Tuckerman
Ravine, in order to assemble this high resolution mosaic. These
images were taken without a tripod, using a Canon 50D with a Canon
10-22mm wide angle lens at 22mm focal length. I first took a set
of 16 frames in manual mode, 1/800 sec, f13, ISO 400. This
resulted in good exposure of the top half of the image, with excellent
depth of field, but underexposure of the bottom half. I then took
another 16 frames in manual mode, 1/200 sec, f13, ISO 400, which
produced good exposure of the bottom half but overexposure of the top
half (exactly what I wanted). I made a panorama from each set
separately in Photoshop CS4 (photomerge feature), aligned both
panoramas to each other, and then used layer masks to reveal the
properly exposed sections from each set. When you explore the interactive
