Galaxy NGC 891
Characteristics:
Magnitude: 10.0
Size: 13.5'
Distance: ?about 10 million light years
RA: 02h 22m 36s
Dec: 42 degrees 21' 00"
Description:
The beautiful edge-on galaxy NGC 891 is located in Andromeda and has
particular meaning to us, since it's probably how our galaxy looks as
well. It's a spiral galaxy that contains a broad band of dust
cutting through the center of the disk, preventing transmission of
background light. At 10 million light years away and magnitude
10, it was a challenging object for the 10D, requiring 7 frames exposed
for 7 minutes each at ISO1600. The foreground stars are all
members of our Milky Way galaxy.
