Collage of Spiral Galaxies

Description:
This
is a collage of spiral galaxies
taken in 2006 through my 4" Takahashi FS102. These spirals were
selected because they are interacting with many neighboring galaxies
that either distort their shape, or that induce new star formation in
the outer galactic arms. Due to distortion, some galaxies (like
NGC
3718 and the Cocoon Galaxy) have lost their classical spiral structure,
whereas others like M51 and M100 have retained their Grand Design
spiral shape. M51 is
in the upper left, NGC
3718 is in the upper right, the Cocoon Galaxy is
in the lower left, and M100
is in the lower right. Please click on the individual galaxy
links for photographic details.
